The Flesch–Kincaid grade level turns the same ingredients (sentence length and syllables per word) into a US school grade. Grade 8 means a typical 13–14 year old can follow it. Most popular websites and newspapers aim for around grade 7–9.
Syllables are counted automatically using English spelling rules, so results can be slightly off for names, abbreviations and non-English words. Use the score as a guide, not a strict rule.
AI writing tools often produce long, formal sentences full of words like "leverage", "comprehensive" and "furthermore". Paste the draft here, find the highlighted long sentences and complex words, and rewrite them in your own voice. The text gets easier to read and sounds more human. Then check its length with our AI Token Counter, or learn the jargon in the AI Glossary.
