Guess the hidden 5-letter word in 6 tries. Unlimited rounds.
A five-letter English word is hidden. Type a guess with your keyboard or the on-screen keys and press Enter. Each letter then changes colour:
You get six guesses. Unlike daily word games, you don't have to wait until tomorrow: press New word and play again straight away.
The most common letters in five-letter English words include E, A, R, O, T, L, I, S and N. A first guess like SLATE, CRANE or AROSE tests five of them at once.
If the first guess gave you little, play a second word with five new letters (for example CRANE then MOIST). Two guesses that cover ten different letters usually narrow the answer down a lot.
A yellow letter tells you two things: the word contains it, and it isn't in that position. Move it somewhere new on your next guess.
Words like APPLE, SHEEP or FLOOR repeat a letter. If you're stuck with three or four greens and few letters left, try doubling one.
Patterns like _IGHT (LIGHT, MIGHT, NIGHT, RIGHT, SIGHT, TIGHT) can eat all your guesses. When several words fit, spend a guess on a word that tests several of the possible first letters at once.
Each round is a small exercise in deduction: you hold several clues in mind and rule words in or out. It also builds vocabulary and spelling awareness, which makes it a nice fit for students and adults alike. For more word play, try Word Builder, our Word Search or the Anagram Puzzle.
Does the game accept any five-letter word?
Yes. Any five letters count as a guess, so a typo still uses a turn. Check your spelling before pressing Enter.
